Abuja, Dec 29, 2020: The Buhari administration in Nigeria recorded a landmark achievement in the railway sector which is so far the first in the history of Nigeria.
The administration constructed and commissioned a Standard Guage Railway line from former federal Capital , Lagos to Ibadan , a major population Centre in the southern part of the country.
The project handled by the Chinese firm, CCECC, was concieved and completed within the life span of the Buhari administration which still has close to two and half years to spend in office.
Nigeria has bad records of abandoned but fully paid up infrastructural projects. The Itakpe -Warri line was in the pipeline for almost 30 years. The Buhari administration also has the honour of completing and commissioning it.
The Lagos-Ibadan line was unique for it is rare in Nigeria for an administration to start and complete a major project within its lifespan.
Buhari’s Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi holds the enviable records on the Ibadan-Lagos SGR line. His boss, Nigerian leader, Muhammadu Buhari has emerged as the first Nigerian leader who can br tagged Mr Railways going by the Lagos-Ibadan feat.
While this achievement is exciting many, local politics has however dampened what should have been a national celebration.
Like his counterpart in Kenya, President Buhari is not getting due credit for changing the railway landscape for the better in Nigeria.
