For the first time, Russian rolling stock with an axle load of 25 tf will be operated on the country’s railway network
Gudok.ru: “Research and Production Corporation” United Wagon Company “(UWC) won an international tender for the supply of 810 gondola cars with increased carrying capacity to Mongolia. This was reported in a press release from the company.
Six companies, including Chinese manufacturers, participated in the tender for the supply of freight cars to Mongolia. In terms of the aggregate characteristics, the model 12-9853 gondola car produced by the Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant (part of UWC) was recognized as superior to the analogues of all bidders. As a result, UWC signed an agreement with Bodi International, one of the leading groups of companies in Mongolia in the fields of finance and banking, real estate and construction, infrastructure and mining.
The first batch of 100 cars will be sent to Mongolia in 2021. Freight cars will be used on the newly built railway line to transport coal from one of the world’s largest deposits, Tavan Tolgoi, to China. For the first time in the history of Russian car building, domestic rolling stock with an axle load of 25 tf will be operated on the Mongolian railway network.
UWC notes that the supply of rolling stock to Mongolia will allow not only to diversify the sales market and additionally ensure the utilization of the company’s production, but will also help reduce its dependence on fluctuations in demand for gondola cars in the domestic market.
The universal open car model 12-9853 was developed by the All-Union Scientific Research Center for Transport Technologies (part of the UWC). The gondola car is characterized by a carrying capacity of 75 tons and a body volume of 92 cubic meters, which allows transporting goods of a wide spectrum of density and increasing the loading on the car by up to 10% compared to analogues on the market. The use of a bogie model 18-9855 with an axial load of 25 tf significantly increases the time between repairs. The service life of the gondola car is 32 years.
In December the representative office of the Transmashholding (TMH) group of companies in Africa – TMH Africa – and the United Wagon Company (UWC) signedframework agreement on industrial cooperation in the African continent. The parties will jointly engage in the production and supply of narrow-gauge freight rolling stock for local consumers.
