China unveils first double-decker train for an Austrian private operator

CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive in southern China’s Hunan province unveils the first double-deck electric train for the Austrian private operator Westbahn, operating between Vienna, Linz and Salzburg.

CRRC expects to certify the train, confirming its compliance with the requirements of the European TSI standard.

According to the European media, referring to representatives of the Westbahn operator, a total of four such trains will be built, intended for operation not only in Austria, but also in five other European countries. Westbahn will not buy them, but will lease them. The two-system six-car electric train is designed for a speed of up to 200 km / h and is powered from an alternating current with a voltage of 15 kV, a frequency of 16.7 Hz and 25 kV, a frequency of 50 Hz.

In the fall of 2019, Westbahn signed a contract with the Swiss company Stadler for the supply of 15 double-deck trains.

At the same time, Stadler was able to offer the best conditions and get ahead of the Chinese corporation CRRC (photo: CRRC).ZDM
