For the first time on the Russian Railways network, a gondola car passed 800 thousand km without repair. How long has it been in operation?

Boris Myagkov- The hatch wagon has been operating on the network since 2014. During this time, it did not have a single release in the current repair, which we consider to be a record for the Russian market. So far, this is the only car that has reached a record high.

By the way, car 12-9853 is our first model on a trolley 18-9855 with an axial load of 25 tf. And today, this model is the most widely represented in the segment of new generation wagons – it is more than 50 thousand units of rolling stock on the Russian Railways network.

The gondola car is owned by Gazprom Leasing JSC. During operation, the record car drove an average of 135 thousand km each year, which is almost two times higher than the average network value for typical models. At the same time, such a gondola can deliver almost 10% more cargo compared to a typical rolling stock due to an increase to 92 cubic meters. m of body volume and increased up to 75 tons of load capacity.

Is a new record possible?

I think that the prospects are real. Firstly, the record holder is still in operation, which means that the mileage will increase further. It should also be noted that there are other gondola cars on the trolley 18-9855, which passed without repair more than 700 thousand km, which means that in the future they can set new mileage records without repair.

What design features of the car allow you to increase turnaround mileage?

First of all, a unique running gear – model 18-9855 trolley. Its design uses modern technical solutions and components that provide increased reliability with high work intensity, improve the dynamic characteristics of the car, increase the turnaround time and reduce the cost of the product’s life cycle as a whole. For example, due to the use of high-strength cast iron, the adapter and friction wedges of the trolley have increased wear resistance for mileage of 1.5 million km, the cassette bearing is designed for an overhaul period of 8 years. The reinforced design of the side frame provides increased strength and mileage indicators, and the configuration of the overpressor beam provides an equally stressed state under load.

Operational experience shows that gondola cars equipped with 18-9855 trolleys, for an average of 1 million km of run, will go about 5 times in the current repair and once in the depot, while typical cars require about 12 current and 5 scheduled repairs.

By the way, the main share of Tikhvin car unscrews for routine repairs is due to the need for turning of wheel pairs, which in the trolley 18-9855 differ from standard analogues in increased hardness. The maintenance of such a wheelset in operation under Tikhvin wagons on comparable runs is 4 times less expensive compared to a conventional wheelset under typical wagons. This is mainly due to the fact that the overhaul of a wheel pair with cassette bearings in Tikhvin trolleys is required 2 times less than for ordinary wheel pairs in type 2 trolleys. In the existing shortage of seamless-rolled wheels in the market, this gap is still widening.
