Russia Plans Network of High-Speed Railways

The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation proposes to think about creating immediately a network of high-speed railways (HSR) in Russia, for example, in the northern, southern and western directions, Transport Minister Yevgeny Dietrich told reporters.

According to him, the high-speed lines work very well on economies of scale.

“Why are our Chinese comrades building so well, doing well and doing a lot? Because it is effective: when they like to travel somewhere and are willing to pay a lot, they are ready to pay a little somewhere, and the HSR is needed to support developing territories. We are now we’re thinking about such economies of scale.

“It’s possible we need high-speed lines not only to the north, to St. Petersburg, but also to the south, to Krasnodar. It’s possible we need high-speed lines to the west, “Dietrich said on Sunday as part of the Day railway worker. That is, he concluded, this is a network.

“Today, on the Day of the Railway Worker, we think, dream about making this possible, I think we can do it together with everyone,” the minister said.

He answered in the affirmative to the clarifying question of whether he believes that a number of HSR projects should be implemented immediately.

High-speed is considered a specialized electrified double-track railway line for the operation of trains with speed from 200 to 400 kilometers per hour.Russian Railways prepared the first Moscow-Kazan high-speed rail project.

However, a spokesman for the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov in mid-April 2019 said that the head of state Vladimir Putin not approved of the approved.

Peskov added that the question of creating such a highway to Kazan has not been finally resolved, adding that the study of the economic feasibility of the project will continue.

It would be recalled that Russian Railways had previously engaged in the preparation of the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed rail project.

The first deputy head of the Ministry of Transport of Russia Innokenty Alafinov in mid-July of this year reported that Belarus was interested in the passage of high-speed lines from Moscow to Minsk and Warsaw.
