International passenger rail service may open this year, TASS reports citing a statement by Russian Transport Minister Yevgeny Ditrich.

The Minister noted that the Ministry of Transport is discussing the resumption of communications with Finland.

“Here, as with aviators, it is very important, as we spoke with the Minister of Transport and Communications of Finland, about the need to synchronize the requirements of safety rules. I sent him the standards that I and Rospotrebnadzor approved.

They promised to study them in order to understand which of the standards would be convenient, and in turn they would give us some suggestions.

“We must clearly understand that within the country we comply with safety standards, that it does not entail any negative consequences, that people travel and do it safely, and then let them go abroad, ”said Eugene Dietrich.

As reported, from July 1 passenger communications with Kaliningrad will resume . When trains transit through the territory of the Republic of Lithuania and the Republic of Belarus at the stations of the Lithuanian and Belarusian railways, only technical stops are provided – passengers will not be boarded or unloaded.
