#Tanzanian #SGR: Compensation for Land Usage Ongoing


Tanzania Railways – TRC has continued with the exercise of compensation for citizens whose areas have been taken to fund the Modern Railway Construction Project – SGR as additional areas for the Morogoro – Makutupora section whose construction has reached more than 73 percent , most recently September 2021.

The exercise is being conducted by Officers from TRC in collaboration with officials and executive officers of the relevant areas of Morogoro region which are Group, Kimambila, Mkwatani, Mkadage, Mwasa as well as Dodoma region in Igandu, Chilwana, Zuzu, Kigwe, Miganga, Bahi Nakulu, Bahi Sokoni and Bahi Mapinduzi.

The Executive of Igandu village in Dodoma region Mr. Jonalis Kibendera said that the people have been worried that the payment may be delayed but thanked the Government for the success of the exercise and provide the people with compensation that is going to change their lives.


“They were worried that the payment would be delayed, but I am grateful to the government, so this money will help them to develop and I also thank the project that has passed in my village because this station (Igandu) will help them transport their produce and buy goods easily and return easily,” he said. 

Wilson Yona is one of the people who have received compensation in Igandu village in Dodoma region where he explained the benefits of the project and thanked the government for providing them with compensation and tear gas to finance the construction of modern railway infrastructure.

“I thank the Government I have received compensation, this project has benefited many people, many young people are in this project and many have succeeded in building a house through this project, we are grateful for this project and we thank the Government as well” said Mr. Yona

Mwantumu Sahabni, a resident of Zuzu in Dodoma region said that “My area was first taken and paid for and taken second time and I have been paid, this project will help reduce travel time and facilitate business activities”.


In addition, additional areas are being taken over for additional contractor activities that do not involve the construction of a railway embankment whose area is largely ready for construction and construction is already underway.
