1st #Turkish Freight Train Heads for #Russia

The first freight train has been dispatched from Ankara to Russia today. It will cover 4.65 thousand km, including 826 km along the Kars (Turkey) – Tbilisi (Georgia) – Baku (Azerbaijan) route. Arrival at the Vorsino terminal and logistics center in the Kaluga region is expected in 8 days.

 There are 15 wagons with containers, which contain 3321 units of Turkish-made household appliances, Prime agency reported , citing the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. 

“Delivery of goods by rail will significantly reduce logistics costs and time,” the department said.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway was built on the basis of the Azerbaijani-Georgian-Turkish interstate agreement. The length of the BTK is 826 km. The line is open in 2017. 

In 2019, the heads of the railway companies of Russia, Turkey and Azerbaijan signed a trilateral memorandum of cooperation in the development of transportation, including on the BTK route.
