The Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications of the Kingdom of Bahrain (Bahrain MTT) presented online to regional and international investors and developers the project of the first phase of the construction of a network of four metro lines.
The international tender procedures for the project will begin in 2021. The participants got the opportunity to get acquainted with the main features of the first stage, including technical, financial and legal aspects.
At this stage, it is planned to build two lines with a total length of 28.6 km with 20 stations, including two interchange lines. The Red line will run from the southern Al Siif district of Bahrain’s capital Manama through its central part to Bahrain International Airport, the Blue line will run from Jufeir through the diplomatic district of the capital in a southwest direction to the educational center of Maudinat Isa.
It is estimated that the total cost of building the Bahrain Metro of four lines with a total length of 109 km will be up to $ 2 billion. The system is designed for the transportation of 43 thousand people / h.
This will be the country’s first urban rail transport system.The construction is planned to be carried out in the format of a public-private partnership. The Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications has already decided on those who will work in the initial stages of the project as consultants.
The leading financial consultant will be the auditing company KPMG, the technical one will be the French company Egis, the international law firm DLA Piper (computer graphics, source: Idom) will act as the legal consultant – ZDM
