Demikhovsky Machine-Building Plant (DMZ, part of Transmashholding JSC, TMH) mastered the manufacture of wheelsets with a gearbox of its own production under the import substitution program. This was reported in a press release from TMH.
The gearbox transmits torque from the engine to the axle of the wheelset, which sets it in motion. As part of one two- or three-car rail bus, four wheelsets with gearboxes are used.
The design of the gearbox and preparation of production continued at DMZ for about a year. The first samples of wheelsets with a gearbox manufactured by DMZ were manufactured in July 2020. Specialists of the Test Center of the Tver Institute of Carriage Building carried out a comprehensive check of the products. In August, the test results were assessed by an acceptance committee, which included experts from JSC Russian Railways, JSC Metrovagonmash and LLC TMH Engineering. In September, the company received a certificate of compliance of new products with the requirements of TR CU 001/2011 “On the safety of railway rolling stock” for a period of 5 years.
The new competence was mastered by the plant during the implementation of the import substitution program. This will allow DMZ to compete with foreign peers. Earlier, gearboxes made in Germany were installed on wheelsets.
“In addition to economic benefits, the concentration of the manufacture of gearboxes and wheelsets on one site will allow better quality control, optimize logistics and avoid sanctions risks,” TMH notes.
DMZ is the main supplier of wheelsets for the products of JSC Metrowagonmash (part of JSC Transmashholding) – metro cars and rail buses, including the newest model RA-3.
