(New Gabon) – Despite a difficult sanitary context in 2020, the Transgabonais operating company (Setrag) announces the record transport of more than 6 million tonnes of manganese ores.
According to the Eramet group, Setrag’s parent company, “Setrag’s very good logistical performance has increased the volumes transported of ore from Comilog [Compagnie minière de l’Ogooué, another Eramet sector] by + 30% to 6 million tonnes in 2020, while ensuring a very good level of service for other customers ”. And thanks to the performance of Setrag, external sales of Comilog increased by 37% to 5.3 million tonnes during the period under review.
Manganese is an important stake for Gabon if one sticks to the analyzes of the general direction of the economy and fiscal policy. According to this administration, on the financial level, the strong increase in the volumes sold of manganese generated a turnover of 577.6 billion FCFA, over the first nine months of 2020. In terms of employment, the workforce has increased. slightly increased by 1.6% to 2,458 permanent staff, representing a payroll of CFAF 42.3 billion.
For the prospect, the French group is optimistic. “ 2021 begins with good momentum in the raw materials sector. We will continue to develop our manganese production in Gabon, increase our production of nickel ore in Indonesia and optimize our activities in mineral sands in Senegal. », Declares Eramet’s CEO, Christel Bories.
Since 2005, Setrag has been the concessionaire for the railway line crossing Gabon, along the Libreville-Franceville axis. Used for the transport of passengers and freight, the Transgabonais retains the transport of ore as its main activity, notably from the Comilog manganese mine in Moanda. The infrastructure consists of 710 km of railway line, including 648 km of main line between the port of Owendo and Franceville.
