An intelligent production base for the recycling of railway materials has been launched in Ma’anshan City in Eastern China. It will help to significantly improve the efficiency of recycling of railway scrap, according to the Xinhua news agency. The enterprise has three automatic production lines, can dismantle 4 thousand decommissioned locomotives, freight and passenger cars, and also recycle 125 thousand tons of steel rails and 58 thousand tons of scrap metal per year.
The production base uses robots to inspect, cut and transport retired railway materials, while applying advanced technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, big data and cloud computing to track and manage the entire product lifecycle.
Xia Yang, CEO of China Railway Materials Group Resources Technology Co. Ltd., in just one hour, a decommissioned freight car can be automatically disassembled by robots and then further processed for reuse. In the future, the scrap can be processed into parts for agricultural and engineering equipment.
Note that in Russia, from 2021 to 2023, about 23 thousand cars will be retired annually in terms of service life .Railcar recycling facility ABC-Rail promises to handle almost any write-off. In 2015, 104 thousand cars were written off and scrapped, and in 2016 – 109 thousand, which is about 20% of the total fleet of the country. After utilization of more than 200 thousand cars, 2.8 million tons of scrap is obtained.
