Oleg Belozerov, General Director and Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways, and Lauri Sipponen, President of VR Group (Finnish Railways), discussed issues of cooperation between the companies, the press center of Russian Railways reports.
The heads of Russian Railways and VR Group noted the effectiveness of interaction and the good results achieved last year: the growth in freight traffic amounted to 5%, container traffic increased by 6%. At the same time, the participants expressed their intention to continue working together not only to maintain the volume of traffic, but also to bring new logistics products to the market.
According to Oleg Belozerov, the railway is of increasing interest for the business of the European Union and China, and there is a prospect of expanding the range of cargo transportation between Russia and Finland in direct and transit communications.
Oleg Belozerov called the transition to a single CIM / SMGS consignment note an important factor for the further development of transit traffic in the Europe – China traffic. This will speed up the processing time for containers at border crossings between Russia and Finland, simplify the document flow process and reduce the cost of transit traffic.
During the conversation, the participants of the meeting noted the high level of application of digital technologies in the Russian-Finnish railway communication. Paperless technology already provides transportation of almost 90% of loaded wagons in export and more than 50% in import, and transportation of all empty wagons is processed electronically.
As part of the discussion of cooperation in the passenger sphere, the heads of the Russian and Finnish railways expressed their hope and readiness for the soonest resumption of passenger railway communication between the countries.(Gudok.ru)
