Yesterday JSC Russian Railways and PJSC Gazprom Neft signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the development of information and innovative technologies.

According to the document, the parties intend to switch to predominantly digital interaction in joint technological processes, in particular, it is planned to introduce smart contract algorithms and create a system for exchanging data on carriage operations.

According to Oleg Belozerov, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Russian Railways, the signing of the memorandum is another step in the implementation of the Holding’s Digital Transformation Strategy.

“One of its principles is the formation of digital platforms – technological solutions for the interaction of transport market participants. Together with our partners, we are creating that trusted environment that will improve the quality of information exchange and the efficiency of the main business processes, ”said the head of the company after signing the memorandum.

Recall that the Board of Directors of Russian Railways approved the Holding’s Digital Transformation Strategy until 2025 in October 2019.

According to the memorandum, Russian Railways and Gazprom Neft PJSC plan to create a system for exchanging data on operations with wagons throughout the entire cycle of their transportation, from the departure station to the destination station, which will make it possible to more accurately predict delivery times and plan shipments.
“Every year, over 20 million tons of Gazprom Neft cargoes are transported by the country’s railways. Both we and Russian Railways see great potential for the use of innovative digital technologies, including those with machine learning elements, for forecasting and managing these freight flows, ”said Alexander Dyukov, CEO of Gazprom Neft PJSC.

The companies also plan to introduce smart contract algorithms into electronic document flow.

A smart contract is a tool that provides contractual support for transport and logistics activities according to the norms of digital law and is a technological tool for the self-fulfillment of contracts. Such a contract is considered automatically executed when all of its conditions are met – the cargo has been transported, the money has been transferred, and the participants have no claims against each other.

“Smart contracts are able to make electronic document flow, on the one hand, easier, and on the other, even more reliable and secure. We strive to actively use digital solutions along the entire value chain and are glad to see a similar approach from Russian Railways, ”said Alexander Dyukov.

According to the Department of Corporate Communications of JSC Russian Railways, the memorandum between Russian Railways and Gazprom Neft is a framework agreement, therefore it is indefinite. The parties have not yet announced the timing of the introduction of specific products into joint technological processes.
