JSC “Russian Railways” and JSC “Russian Post” agreed to jointly develop logistics services for the delivery of postal items and groupage cargo. The corresponding memorandum at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok was signed by Oleg Belozerov, CEO – Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways, and Maxim Akimov, General Director of Russian Post, according to the Russian Railways press service.
The companies will be engaged in the containerization of postal items and the delivery of groupage cargo (goods from online stores, retail chains, small and medium-sized businesses). To this end, the parties plan to organize multimodal services for Russian Post shipments to domestic and international routes using container trains running on schedule.
In addition, Russian Railways and Russian Post will evaluate the possibility of launching special international container trains for the transport of e-commerce goods.
Now, for delivery by rail, the Russian Post uses only post and baggage cars. The launch of container trains for the delivery of mail and goods from online stores will offer the market new logistics products and significantly reduce the cost and shorten delivery times.
The parties also plan to work together to develop and further implement promising transport technologies.
“ The future is behind container transportation Russian railways. This is a more technological, convenient and environmentally friendly way of delivering goods. I am sure that our collaboration with the Russian Post in this area will allow us to provide additional opportunities for our clients, ”said Oleg Belozerov.
“Container technology has great potential. We are confident that the development of this area in combination with the creation of a modern digital platform will allow us to meet the growing demand for the delivery of e-commerce goods in Russia, from Asia and Europe, as well as to increase the volume of transit shipments. We thank Russian Railways for many years of cooperation and we hope that it will further contribute to the development of railway transportation and the emergence of new logistics technologies, services and products, ”said Maxim Akimov, in turn.
