Spanish #CAF Wins two German Contracts

The Spanish company CAF has entered into two contracts with a total value of about 200 million euros (237.06 million USD) for the supply of tram cars to Germany.

The first of them is with the urban transport operator Ruhrbahn, which serves the tram network between Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr with a total length of 155 km, the second with the municipal company VAG Freiburg, which operates the Freiburg tram network.

Under the first contract, in the period from 2024 to 2026, it is envisaged to supply 51 tram cars and the corresponding spare parts for them. These are low-floor shuttle cars with a length of 28 m and a minimum capacity of 173 passengers. They also provide space for wheelchairs and baby carriages. In order to increase the level of safety, vehicles are equipped with tram driver assistance systems, as well as rear-view cameras instead of conventional mirrors.

Under the second contract, CAF will supply eight tram cars in addition to the 17 Urbos cars purchased and already in operation. The new technology will replace the old GT8N wagons that have been in use since the early 1990s  (photo: CAF) .
