The government of Uganda is debating securing a loan of almost 300 Million euro for the refurbishment and upgrade of Kampala-Malab Meter Gauge Railway.
Hon. Syda Bubumba today presented parliamentary s Committee Report on the proposal to borrow up to UA 179.56M from the ADF, UA 69.94M from the ADB and Euro 25.9841M from the Corporate CIFS for the Refurbishment of Kampala-Malab Meter Gauge Railway.
The Kampala-Malaba Meter Gauge Railway Project will revamp the Meter Gauge Railway by carrying out rehabilitatron of the line from Malaba-Kampala (250km), Kampala-Port Bell (8.3Km) and Kampala-Nalukolongo -Kyengera (12.3Km); a total of 270.6Km, purchase and rehabilitate coaches, wagons and locomotives, create a railway trarning school and stocknew spares for the workshop.
The cost per km track of the project (Euro 884,558.8 Million) is much more than that of rehabilitating the Tororo-Gulu Railway Line, and URC attributes the drfference in cost to the scope of works summarized in Table :Uganda
