New equipment of the locomotive allows to increase the mileage between equipment with sand
The Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant (NEVZ, a part of Transmashholding JSC, TMH) sent for testing to the Bataysk depot of the North Caucasian Railway an experimental electric locomotive 3ES5K Ermak with installed new equipment – a locomotive friction activation device (UATL) and a lubrication device for wheel flanges steam (USGL). This was reported in a press release from TMH.
The locomotive will pass an operational run of 5 thousand km. Equipping an electric locomotive with new devices makes it possible to increase the mileage of locomotives between outfits with sand.
The advantages of an electric locomotive equipped with a UATL device include an increase in the adhesion properties of the locomotive with the effect of completely eliminating or reducing the use of sand.
The use of UGSL makes it possible to reduce the wear of the ridges, increases the resource of the locomotive wheelsets and reduces the resistance of the locomotive on curved sections, and also makes it possible to reduce the number of outfitting stations for refueling locomotives with sand.
After the completion of the test run at the North Caucasus Railways, the electric locomotive will go to the Eastern landfill for controlled operation. The 3ES5K Ermak with UATL and USGL devices will be operated as a pusher locomotive (pushing locomotive) on the difficult mountainous section Toreya – Turma of the East Siberian Railway, which will allow the most reliable assessment of its adhesion properties in the event of skidding and skidding of wheelsets.
NEVZ had last year supplied 15 electric locomotives 4ES5K Ermak to Russian Railways. Such machines are successfully operated in the complex natural landscape relief of the Eastern polygon, which is characterized by the presence of pass sections with steep ascents and slopes up to 30% and sections of the path with small radius curves up to 200 m.(Gudok.ru)
