Following widespread reports of ticket racketeering on Abuja Kaduna railway line, the Minister of Transportation,Hon Rotimi Amaechi today visited the Idu stationed the Nigerian railway corporation, voving to deal with the culprits.
The minister who addressed the staff of the station expressed shock and anger at the conduct of the racketeers, informing that discreet investigation is ongoing and that those found wanting will be dismissed from service.
Explaining the many good intention of government in the rail sector,Amaechi said racketeers are enemies of the people and the nation, vowing that henceforth, there will be no hiding place for personnel involved in such criminal activities.
The Abuja-Kaduna line was commissioned last year and is widely regarded as one of the most potentially profitable of the railway business lines. Reports are however rife that officials engaged in many unwholesome activities of which ticket racketeering is the most prevalent.
The development drew so much anger within government because the service despite its high patronage is still running at loss.
