Railway to Procure 125 Vans to Carry Farmers’ Produces

Bangladesh Railways authorities on Monday signed a contract with a Chinese joint venture company to procure 125 luggage vans for carrying agricultural products.

The vans would be used to carry agricultural products directly from the farmers to the consumers so that the farmers could get justified prices for their products, said the railways minister Nurul Islam Sujan.

The minister was addressing the contract signing ceremony held at Rail Bhaban, said a press release issued by the ministry.

The 75 metre gauge and 50 broad gauge vans will be collected within 27 months from the contract signing date at a cost of around Tk 358.39 crore and financial support from the Asian Development Bank.

The Rolling Stock Operations Improvement Project director Md Mizanur Rahman on behalf of the railway and CNTIC deputy general manager Yang Bing on behalf of the joint venture firm CNTIC-Rail Teco-Jinxi signed the contract.
