Serbia plans to buy Chinese electric trains for Belgrade-Budapest highway

Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia Tomislav Momirovic, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China Chen Bo and representatives of the national operator of passenger trains Srbija Voz, the Chinese rolling stock manufacturer CRRC and the international division of the state-owned railway company China Railway International signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of railway Vehicle. 

This was reported in a press release from the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia.

The document provides for the possibility of purchasing high-speed electric trains for operation at speeds of up to 200 km / h on the modernized Belgrade-Budapest railway corridor, as well as the possibility of cooperation in creating centers in Serbia where R&D, training of specialists, as well as maintenance and production of railway vehicles can be carried out. composition. 

The ministry reports that the establishment of train production in the country is extremely important for the development of railway communication in the republic.

Tomislav Momirovich noted that this memorandum is a continuation of the agreement on economic and technical cooperation in the field of infrastructure, signed in 2009.

Russian Railways International LLC and Serbian Railways Infrastructure JSC on December 24signed an additional agreement No. 2 on the second stage of reconstruction of the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad section to the contract signed in January 2019. 

The document provides for the execution of works and the supply of materials in the amount of 58 million euros during the second stage of reconstruction, modernization and construction of a double-track railway at a speed of 200 km / h on the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad section with a length of 40.44 km on the Belgrade – Budapest line.(
