Addis Ababa, November 10, 2022 – The Ethiopian Ministry of Transport and Logistics has announced a National Transport and Logistics Master Plan to be implemented for the next 30 years.
The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Dagmawit Moges, stated that the master plan is designed to modernize the transport sector and increase Ethiopia’s economy.
According to the Minister, the master plan will greatly increase the involvement of the private sector.
She also explained that it will also help the agriculture, manufacturing, mining and tourism sectors to grow by making transportation accessible to all parts of the country.
“Today we’ve successfully launched Ethiopia’s 30-Years Integrated Transport Master Plan. A dynamic national long term transport plan based on development scenarios, possible economic development trends & overall international situation influences.
“#ETMP30 introduces innovative themes in Ethiopia’s transport planning, management & operation. It’s the right chance to make our transport system sustainable in terms of environment, safety, climate change & congruent with growing future transport demand.
“With implementations at national & local levels #ETMP30 will create an integrated transport system using effective & efficient multimodal/intermodal connections. It’ll guide transport operations for all levels of gov’t with integration of urban/rural & economic development of Ethiopia.
“I believe our transport & logistics sector will significantly influence the economic development of Ethiopia favorably for the coming three decades. So coupled with integrated planning & implementation; our concerted efforts will allow us to put a founding stone for the prosperity of Ethiopia” , the Minister further tweeted.
During the unveiling event, it was pointed out that the announced integrated transport and logistics master plan will increase road accessibility and quality.
Besides to land transportation, the new National Transport and Logistics Master Plan is believed to give special focus to air transport infrastructure
