Hitachi Rail has secured a contract to implement its Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) digital signalling technology on Paris Metro Line 12, operated by RATP.

The project is part of the OCTYS (Open Control Train Interchangeable Integrated System) 2030 programme, which aims to modernise metro operations in the French capital.
The initial contract is valued at 20 million EUR, with the potential for additional orders amounting to 65 million EUR, including operational maintenance activities.
The upgrade is expected to enhance capacity and efficiency on the 17.2-kilometre line, which serves 31 stations, including two multimodal hubs in central Paris.
Hitachi Rail will design and install wayside CBTC technology based on RATP’s specifications. CBTC is a train control system that enables real-time communication between trains and infrastructure, optimising service operations compared to conventional signalling systems. This technology is used globally in metro, light rail, and people mover networks to improve efficiency and safety.
Hitachi Rail has previously delivered CBTC upgrades for Metro Line 3 and is set to commission work on Line 6 in 2025. The modernisation of Line 12 marks the third CBTC project that Hitachi Rail is delivering for RATP as part of successive OCTYS programmes.
