The Nigerian Federal Ministry of Transportation in collaboration with National Chamber Policy Centre and her partner, African Railway Consulting Limited, is to host a global railway conference between August 11th and 12th, 2022 at the Abuja Trade and Convention Centre.
The conference (RailAfta) which has as theme: ” Powering African Free Trade Area with Sustainable Railway Development” is to be graced by top leaders from the African Union, secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA), New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD-AUDA), African Development Bank, Ministries of Transportation/Infrastructure, national railway agencies, railway industry associations, global railway companies, leasing firms, financial institutions among others.
According to the organisers, “the state of railway development in Africa demands an urgent meeting of all critical stakeholders to brainstorm on fast tracking rail connectivity to meet the demands of African Continental Free Trade Area. Major issues include attracting needed financing, imperative of continental railway standardisation and the urgency of closer economic bloc collaboration in the railway development process.
“It is a veritable platform to showcase investment possibilities especially within the context of African emphasis on rail connectivity to drive the African Continental Free Trade Area. It is an arena for B2B, B2G, G2G” networking, a document from the planning committee noted.
