Saudi Ministry Mulls Localization and Maintenance of Trains with Alstom




The Saudi Ministry of Investment signed a memorandum of understanding with Alstom, which specializes in the sustainable and smart transportation sector, in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Fahad Al-Naim.


Both sides discussed investment opportunities in the transportation sector and the localization of the manufacture and maintenance of trains, in addition to establishing a regional headquarters for the company in the Kingdom.

The memorandum aims to explore the future of sustainable transport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and identify investment opportunities in the public transport sector related to railway infrastructure, sustainable transport technologies and reducing carbon emissions, in line with the objectives of Vision 2030.


It is noteworthy that the Kingdom is committed to reaching net zero emissions by 2060, becoming the second country in the region to do so.

As the infrastructure for sustainable mobility, such as rail transport, plays a major role in achieving sustainable development goals in the Kingdom, the Kingdom is encouraged to followed through the collaboration, quoting the Saudi Press Agency “SPA”. .
