The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday said that the Red Line Rail will be completed before the end of this year.
Sanwo-Olu said this while addressing newsmen after flagging off the commencement of commercial operations of the Lagos Blue Line Rail.
Showing much excitement about the Red Line Rail, the Lagos State governor said the flyover bridges being constructed will be commissioned and opened one after the other from the end of this month.
“The Red Line Rail is going to be completed before the end of this year as we are about 95 to 96 percent gone on the project,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“We are going to start commissioning the flyover bridges maybe by the end of this month, so that passengers and vehicles can start moving on them.
“That is from the Ikeja Along Bridge to Yaba to Ebute-Metta to Mushin and all of that.
“Opening of the bridges will give a signal that the Red Line Rail is coming up and we are almost completing the retro-fitting of the trains.
“We have also started the recruitment of train operators and train managers after which we will start the unveiling of the various stations themselves but I can tell you that the Red Line Rail is actually bigger than the Blue Line.”
Meanwhile, on the electricity issue on Blue Line Rail, Jubril Gawat, a media aide to Sanwo-Olu, said it is totally fenced off, So no one will have absolutely nothing to do on the rail track as a passenger.
Gawat also said that for people asking, they can get the card practically at every train station or even Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) stations.
According to him, it is the same Cowry card that works for all, bus, water and train.
Gawat disclosed that there will be over 300 CCTV cameras across the whole Blue Line Rail to ensure security.
He said over 30 cameras will be monitoring the tracks alone even as command and control centers will be available in all stations.
